India have lost their returning opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739 in the third of the four-match Test series at the Edgbaston, Birmingham in England on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.
There were high hopes from Sehwag, who missed the first two games of the series due to a shoulder injury. The flamboyant batsman did take part in a tour game against Northamptonshire, but was unable to make an impression, getting out for 8 runs.
However, the number one Test team in the world did not have any doubts over the ability of Sehwag and drafted him into the playing-11 for today’s game. Due to his inclusion, youngster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abhinav-Mukund-c41758 had to sit out today.
The youngster would have been terribly disappointed, as he scored a terrific century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 came back after his back injury.
The other change in the squad was the inclusion of leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453 for this game.
India’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 was twice lucky in the previous two games, winning the toss. He would have hoped to win the toss this time around as well, as the wicket had grass on it.
However, luck did not favour the Indian captain today, as England’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 won the toss and opted to field first. He stated, “We've got to be on our game if we want to win.”
On the other hand, Dhoni stated, “It’s not the first time we’ve been under pressure, we’ve been under pressure in India and outside, it’s something we’re used to. Sehwag is a dynamic cricketer, he just needs to come out and play his natural game. That’s where experience counts. This will also be good exposure for Amit Mishra.”
Although Dhoni expected some heroics from Sehwag in the match, the veteran opener failed to last longer. He was dismissed off the very first ball he faced in the innings from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465.
The umpire did not rule Sehwag out straight away, but Strauss went for the review. The replays suggested that the ball had hit the glove and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 made no mistake in catching it.
