Broad has had a dreadful summer as he was unable to deliver the required results expected of him and kept struggling.
The 25-year-old fast bowler could manage eight wickets in three Tests against the Sri Lankans at an average of 48.75 runs per wicket, with the best of 2 for 21 runs.
He was appointed Captain of the T20 side and the only T20 match was lost to the visitors by nine wickets. Broad remained wicket less and could not open his account with the bat as well.
The lanky bowler was part of the team in the initial four ODIs but could not leave any impression as he claimed just two wickets, averaging 95.50 runs per wicket.

He was unlucky on quite a few occasions in the summer to get the wickets. ODI skipper Cook, speaking on Broad’s misfortunes, said, "Sometimes you need that bit of luck to go your way and Stuart hasn't really had that."
On the other hand it was an encouraging summer for Patel who has been a consistent performer which brought him in the limelight.
He represented England http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the tour match played from May 19th to 22nd, 2011, at Derby, and scored 119 runs in the first innings, 35 in the second innings and claimed a wicket as well.
The 26-year-old has played 11 ODIs for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and scored 116 runs at an average of 23.20 run s with the best of 31 runs.
The left-arm spinner has clinched 11 wickets, averaging 29.00 runs per wicket with the best of 5 for 41 runs.
Patel played his last ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on November 26th, 2008 at Cuttack.
England and Cook anticipates the all-rounder will not let the chance roll away from him this time and will give a solid performance in the fifth ODI.
