LIVE – India Under-19s v Sri Lanka Under-19s – Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup (2nd semi-final) – Match Update – Sri Lanka reach 86/2 by 25th over
Led by opener Pabasara Waduge, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Under-19s managed to reach 86 by the end of the 25th over of the ongoing 2nd semi-final of the Asian Cricket Council Under-19s Asia Cup, being played against the India Under-19s at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur today on June 29.
Sri Lanka dominated Group B throughout the initial stages of the tournament, winning all of the 3 matches they played and maintaining a firm grip on the top spot on the points table. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, part of Group A, were second from the top on the points table, having won 2 out of 3 matches.
The first semi-final yesterday resulted in a massive 151-run win for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 Under-19s, and the winner of today’s match will be facing off against them in the tournament final on July 1st at the same venue.
The Sri Lanka U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, with Waduge (44) and Shehan Fernando (18) opening the innings for their side. The duo set up a respectable opening stand of 39 runs, which came to an abrupt end with the dismissal of Fernando in the 11th over, caught and bowled by right-arm off-spinner Baba Aparajith.
Sebastian Perera was next up to bat, but his time at the crease was short-lived. Along with a brief 2nd wicket 16-run stand with Waduge, he contributed a mere 3 runs to the team total before he was dismissed, lbw, by left-arm spinner Vikas Mishra in the 16th over. Mishra has managed two 4-wicket hauls during the tournament so far – 4/18 against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 U-19, and will be hoping for a similar performance today.
Perera’s dismissal left his side at 55 for 2 – however, coming in at number 4, Angelo Jayasinghe chipped in with 17 runs and partnered with the resilient Waduge, in order to get the team back on track.
But the end of the 25th over, the team has managed to accumulate 86 runs at the expense of two wickets, and with Waduge and Jayasinghe still going strong at the crease, Sri Lanka have a good chance of racking up a substantial total for the India Under-19s to chase.
