West Indies might have been down, but certainly not out of the second Test against India at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in India on Thursday, November 17, 2011.
The tourists had lost three wickets for 161 runs before the end of day three’s play, but youngster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 and veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul fought back hard for their side, scoring a century stand for the fourth wicket.
The pair will look to continue batting sensibly in order to save the match. However, they will have to work extremely hard in order to put the opposition under pressure.
The pitch at Eden Gardens has been supportive for the batsmen from day one. It has not changed much since then and the bowlers have to really bend their backs to get the batsmen out.
Apart from a few balls staying low, there has been even bounce and the spinners have also not been able to extract much spin off the track.
Earlier, the Men in Blue scored 631 runs in their first innings for the loss of just seven wickets before skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 declared the innings.
The highlight of the Indian innings was a sensational batting performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 and Dhoni, as the trio scored centuries.
Laxman was the top scorer of the innings, remaining unbeaten on 176 runs whereas Dhoni and Dravid batted brilliantly for their 144 and 119 run knocks.
Although conditions remained batting friendly when the Windies came out to bat, they panicked and gave away wickets at regular intervals. The entire team was dismissed for 153 runs in the first outing and had to bat once again, as Dhoni imposed the follow
on.

on day three.
However, the innings was then carried forward by Bravo and Chanderpaul, as the pair guided the team’s total to 264 until the 83rd over and were batting on 81 and 43 respectively.
