Due to this batting failure of the tourists, India have now gained a first innings lead of 478 runs, as they scored a mammoth total of 631 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their first innings.
The playing conditions at the Eden Gardens were perfect for the batsmen and the hosts took full advantage of that after skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 elected to bat at the toss.
There were three centuries scored in the Indian innings with the highest score coming from solid middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772, who remained unbeaten on 176 before the innings was declared.
Dhoni also batted extremely well, scoring 144 runs in the innings before being dismissed. Third centurion of the Indian innings was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229, who has been in stupendous form this year. He got out after contributing 119 runs to the total.
Although the pitch remained good for batting, the West Indian players struggled to cope up with the pressure created by the home team’s spinners.

The start of the day three was also not good for the tourists, as they started losing wickets at regular intervals.
