LIVE - Ireland v England - Only ODI - Match Update
In the Only ODI, England moved onto 34 for the loss of one wicket after put into bat by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 at the Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, today, August 25, 2011.
At the crease was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 batting on 17, just joined by one of England Promising youngster, James Tayor, not out on 1.
The start was interrupted due to rain but the sun was soon out, so the play started on time.
It was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801 who won the toss and elected to field first.
The Poms had three debutants in their side namely, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915.
It was the pairing of Trott and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Francis-Mooney-c67825.
The start was slow as the pitch played uneven, mainly due to the dampness caused by the rain.
In the third over, Trott hit the first boundary of the innings in his customary style. Rankins bowled one onto the pads of the player, who just flicked the ball elegantly of his hip to the square led boundary.
The surprising aspect was the explosive Kieswetter, who simply could not get the bowlers away. He played and missed a few, before he smashed a six out of nowhere to Rankins. A Pre meditated walk down the pitch was picked by bowler who followed him.
Somehow, the player managed to pull the ball over the wicket-keeper, much to the dismay of the fielding side.
Kieswetter however, soon perished after making 14. He hit Mooney’s first ball of the fourth over to the square led boundary before the bowler bowled an absolute cracker of a delivery, which the batsman had no option but to play at it, giving wicket-keeper,
Neil O’Brien a simple catch.
On came Taylor, who looked nervous on his debut. Mean while on the other end, Trott started to up the scoring rate as he hit two boundaries in back to back overs.
So at the end of 10 overs, it was Irish, the much happier of the two teams as they restricted England to 34, having taken the important wicket of the Poms wicket-keeper.
