LIVE – Pakistan v Sri Lanka: 1st Test – Pakistan extend lead until lunch – Match Update
Pakistan have gained a solid first innings lead against Sri Lanka until lunch on day three of the first Test of the three match series at the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 on Thursday, October 20, 2011.
At the end of the morning session today, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890.
The hosts have now extended their first innings lead to 139 runs with eight more batsmen to follow. They are in a very good position and will look to score some quick runs in the remaining two sessions of the day.
When the proceedings started today, Taufeeq and Azhar were batting at 109 and 60 runs respectively. They only managed to put on 19 runs today before the latter got out after scoring a solid 70-run knock.
Azhar would have been extremely disappointed, missing out on a century yet again. He has got closer to his maiden ton on numerous occasions now, but has been unable to reach the milestone yet.
The 26-year-old batsman was undone by a beautiful delivery today. The ball pitched on good length and came back in sharply to uproot the off-stump. The batsman was slow to react to the movement, which gave Sri Lanka an early breakthrough in the day.
This brought Younis in the middle, who had to wait a long time for his batting. The veteran batted cautiously and did not try to score quick runs. He got one lucky escape as well, getting dropped down the leg by wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HAPW-Jayawardene-c1529.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 was the unlucky bowler on this occasion. Although the ball did not deserve a wicket, but chances like these need to be taken.
Apart from that, there were no real dramas in the session, as Pakistan kept on extending their lead steadily. Taufeeq and Younis remained unbeaten on 146 and 25 respectively when the session was called off by the umpires.
The only wicket to fall in the day was taken by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735.
