Pakistan’s Asad Shafiq was dismissed soon after the lunch break on day three of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) on Friday, October 28, 2011.
The solid middle-order batsman played really well today, scoring 59 runs with the help of four boundaries and one massive six. He was involved in a 70-run stand for the seventh wicket with wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adnan-Akmal-c42042.
Asad had reached his half-century during the first session’s play and would have aimed to score a big one for his side. He was unable to reach three figures and gave his wicket away to a relatively lose delivery.
The 25-year-old got a short and wide ball outside the off-stump and could have easily smashed it over the fielders inside the circle. Instead, the ball was gently steered to the gully fielder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397, who made no mistake completing the catch.
Just three runs later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691 was also sent back to the pavilion. He failed to get off the mark and took a dejected walk back to the pavilion.
The left-handed batsman advanced down the track, attempting to loft the ball over the fence. However, the sharp turn from spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 did not allow the batsman to connect the ball.
There was plenty of gap between the bat and pad of Rehman and the ball went through it, crashing into the stumps.
Next batsman to be dismissed in the innings was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604. He managed to score a couple of runs, but failed to read a carom ball from Herath, which caught him right in front of the stumps.
Adnan will now be looking to score some quick runs in order to stretch the team’s first innings lead to as many as possible. He will also look to score his maiden Test half-century. The keeper batsman has a highest score of 44 runs, but has a very good opportunity
to improve that today.
Sri Lanka’s Dhammika Prasad gave the initial breakthrough to his side after lunch. He has now taken three wickets in the innings and will look to complete a five-for in the end.
