Pakistan dominated the lunch session against Sri Lanka on day one of the second Test of the three match series at the Dubai International Stadium in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.
Sri Lanka batted 25 overs in the session and lost five wickets for 78 runs on the board. The only positive thing for the team was that veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 was unbeaten on 29 and might rescue his side from trouble.
Earlier, the tourists’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 won the toss and decided to bat. He expected the wicket to favour the batsmen, but things did not turn out to be good for the team.
The Sri Lankan batsmen did not bat with sensibly and some of the wickets were simply thrown away.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettige-Don-Rumesh-Lahiru-Thirimanne-c63124 was the first man to be dismissed in the day. He managed just one run in his short stay at the crease and was trapped plumb in front of the stumps off Umar Gul’s in-dipper.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132 was the next man to be dismissed after contributing six runs to the total. He played a lose shot, throwing his bat at a short and wide delivery outside the off-stump, becoming the second victim of Gul in the day.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors, as star batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 was also sent back to the pavilion by Gul. The stylish right-handed player has been unable to make a significant score until now in the series and scored just six runs today.
Dilshan was the next wicket to fall in the session. He flashed at one good length delivery, only managing an outside edge to it. He became the first victim of youngster http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037, who has impressed one and all during his early career.
All-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 used an unorthodox approach today, batting way down the crease against the fast bowlers.
However, this technique only earned him 19 runs, as he got out on the brink of lunch.
Sri Lanka were 78 for the loss of five wickets before the first session was called off. Sangakkara was batting on 29 whereas debutant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayan-Kaushal-Silva-c66641 managed to get off the mark with one run.
Gul and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 did a fabulous job for their side, picking up three and two wickets respectively in the morning session.
