LIVE – Ruhuna v Trinidad and Tobago: Champions League Twenty20 – Ruhuna’s Innings Update
Ruhuna posted a decent total of 138 against Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) in a Pool A match of the Champions League Twenty20 Qualifying at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on Monday, September 19, 2011.
The highlight of the innings was a solid half-century from Sri Lanka’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831, who top scored the innings with 50 runs.
Ruhuna could have scored a few more runs had there not been too many run-outs in the innings. The team lost five batsmen due to poor running between the wickets.
Toss was won by Ruhuna’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahela-Lakmal-Udawatte-c73806, who opted to bat first. The pitch appeared to be a very good one for the batsmen, as it was hard and dry.
The team from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Jayasuriya-c2567. The latter smashed a couple of boundaries before being adjudged leg-before-wicket. He was a touch unlucky, as the ball had pitched outside the leg-stump.
Jayasuriya ended up with 13 runs off 11 balls. He was followed by the team’s skipper, who was run-out after adding just 10 runs to the total.
Milinda Siriwardana was the next wicket to fall in the innings. He managed just one run in his short outing before getting run-out. This left Ruhuna under a spot of bother, as three batsmen had been dismissed for 26 runs on the board.
However, wicketkeeper batsman Chandimal did not panic under pressure and steadied the innings alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liyanabadlge-Janaka-Prabath-Gunaratne-c73032. The pair put on 67 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before the latter got out after adding 20 runs to the total.
Chandimal really played well and collected 50 runs off 48 deliveries with the help of a couple of fours and the same number of sixes. His wicket left the team under immense pressure, but a cameo of 23 runs off 13 balls from TM Sampath guided the team to
138 runs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472he end.
T&T’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Rampaul-c2233 was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/17 in four overs. He conceded just one run in the final over of the innings, which saw four wickets fall including a team hat-trick off the last three balls.
