The hosts got off to a very good start in the match, scoring 58 runs for the loss of just one wicket in the first 10 overs of the innings. However, the team failed to capitalise on the strong start, losing wickets at regular intervals.
At the end of 24 overs, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 were struggling at 117 for the loss of 7 wickets.
The hosts’ skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 had opted to bat first after winning the toss. This was expected, as the pitch at Pallekele has offered a lot of support to the spinners in the recent past, especially in the second half of the game.
There was no change in the pitch for today’s game as well. It was dry and there were a lot of cracks in it, which were expected to open up in the second innings.
Sri Lanka’s start to the innings was a very good one, as the openers Dilshan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WU-Tharanga-c2802 put together a solid half-century partnership. The latter played attacking cricket, but was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings, getting out
for 34 runs off 28 balls. He smashed seven fours in his impressive outing.
Dilshan was the next man to be dismissed in the innings after scoring 29 runs from 41 balls. He would have liked to bat longer for his side, but failed to convert his start into a big one.
Just four runs later, veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, who got out after adding 16 runs to
the total.
The struggle continued for the hosts, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LD-Chandimal-c1831 and Jeevan Mendis were dismissed after contributing 12 and 2 runs to the total respectively.
The team would have hoped for some fight back from all-rounder Angelo Matthews, who got out after collecting 12 runs.
Australia’s Johnson picked up 4 wickets, leading the fight back for his side.
