LIVE - Sri Lanka v Australia: 2nd Test - Day-2 – Second Session Recap
Australia are in a strong position in the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka, as the Kangaroos have piled up 251 for the loss of three wickets at the end of the second session on Day-2 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy on Friday, September 9, 2011.
The islanders failed to claim a wicket during the second session since the Australian batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942, displayed rock-solid batting and did not let the bowlers take a sigh of relief.
Before tea break, Marsh and Hussey were unbeaten on 83 and 68 respectively. It will not be wrong to say that the second session, which saw 35 overs being bowled, belonged to the Aussies as the tourists collected 118 runs in the session.
The Sri Lankan captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, also availed the new ball during the session but that did not help him either. The visiting side started off the session at 133/3 when Hussey and Marsh came out on 15 and 26 respectively.
Both batsmen unleashed their batting talent, hitting the ball classically all around the wicket. The duo avoided the good deliveries but punished the poor ones.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377’s replacement and smashed a thrilling half-century on his debut. He is just 17 runs away from a well deserved, maiden Test ton.
Dilshan tried all of his options to steal a wicket but nothing went in his favour. The part-time bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 were also brought in the mix, but to no effect.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ranasinghe-Arachchige-Suranga-Lakmal-c83928 and Suraj Randiv have grabbed a scalp so far in the innings while the rest of the bowlers are yet to open their accounts.
The Australians are currently leading by 77 runs in reply of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s first innings total of 174. While there is still some batting to come, the stage is set for the Aussies to take a handsome lead in the first innings and put pressure on the opposition.
