LIVE – Sri Lanka v Australia: 2nd Test – Sri Lanka in tatters as Sangakkara departs – Match Update
Sri Lanka were in tatters against Australia in the second Test of the three match series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka on Thursday, September 8, 2011.
The hosts had lost five wickets until lunch and had scored only 76 runs until then. However, former skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 was well set and the team would have expected something special from the veteran player.
Sangakkara failed to live up to the expectations of his side, as he got out after a steady knock. He was followed by Suraj Randiv, as the hosts were in deep trouble at 133/7.
Earlier, the hosts had opted to bat first after winning the toss. The team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 expected his batsmen to bounce back in the series after a dismal show in the opening Test match.
This was not the case though, as the Lankan top-order struggled to get going once again. They blamed the pitch last time, as it was terrible for any form of cricket. However, the Pallekele wicket was perfect for batting. It did have a little assistance for
the bowlers, but conditions were very much playable unlike Galle.

Paranavitana was the first man to be dismissed in the innings after failing to open his account. He was followed by his skipper, who managed just 4 runs in his short stay at the crease.

However, the innings was given some momentum by Sangakkara and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913, as the pair put together 52 runs for the sixth wicket partnership. The former failed to convert his innings into a big one though and got out after scoring 48.
Lower-order player Randiv followed after adding 4 runs to the total whereas Mathews was still at the crease.
