The third match of the One Day International (ODI) Series from the Sri Lankan Tour to England is being played at the all-famous Lord’s, in England, on Sunday, July 3, 2011.
The match kicked off between the visitors, Sri Lanka, and hosts England. Currently, both the teams hold a stalemate in the series after securing one win each.
The day began with the English opening with the bat after they won the toss.
With Sri Lankan pacers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 made their way to the pitch to open for their side.
The bout kicked off after Cook brought the 1st over of the day to a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Close-c51347 with a boundary.
With Mathews and Malinga swapping overs, the English openers played slowly through the first 5 overs with a couple of scattered boundaries.
However, with the 6th over in progress, Sri Lankan pacer, Malinga, secured the first wicket for his side.
With a well disguised slow delivery, the bowler managed to secure Kieswetter’s wicket. With just 3 runs added to the total, the English wicketkeeper was caught out at mid-off by Lakmal.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 entered as the next batsman. With an opening wicket already secured, another opportunity came for the Lankans in the opening delivery of the following over; however, Jayawardene, at slip, dropped English skipper Cook’s catch off Kulasekara.
The Lankans eventually struck again, in the 10th over, when Trott made his way back to the pavilion. The team’s skipper Dilshan, caught the player’s loosely driven shot at mid-off. The wicket taker was Lakmal.
The first 10 overs of the English innings saw a slow aggregate of 32 for 2, with a run-rate of 3.20.
The English Captain was then joined by Pietersen, who without any hesitation, took up his trademark whacks and began his innings with three consecutive fours in the 12th over of the day, bowled by Lakmal.
With Pietersen’s fortunate presence on the crease, the team’s run rate went up. He took the side’s total to 64 by the 15th over, at a run-rate of 4.26.
However, Pietersen finally lost his ground in the 20th over; when he was caught by Randiv, off Mendis. He scored an impressive 41, but failed to complete his fifty.

The first 25 overs of the English session saw a weak batting show by the hosts as they crawled to 103 for 4.
