The tourists still trail by 189 runs with nine wickets remaining. The positive thing for them was that they did not lose any wicket in the morning session today. They will be looking to play for a draw, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is in a safe position.
Conditions at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium have been very good for the batsmen throughout the game. However, the pitch offered some bounce and spin to the bowlers, which kept them interested.
Pakistan would have had a better session than what the scorecard shows at the moment. The fielders did not seem to be alert, as a few chances were let down. However, they will get some time to regroup and come out attacking the opposition once again.
Sri Lanka had lost one wicket yesterday, as opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 have been solid
as a rock since then.
The pair put together 125 runs for the second wicket and will look to carry on once they resume batting in the second session of the morning.
When the umpires called the session off today, Thirimanne and Sangakkara were unbeaten on 59 and 62 respectively. They would have been pleased with the proceeding until now. Both batted solidly, but also had their share of luck.
Thirimanne was dropped twice by slip fielder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 was the unlucky bowler this time
around.
Sangakkara also had his heart in mouth once he was nearly caught in the slips by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325. The same fielder dropped him off Hafeez towards the closing moments of the session.
Overall, the session certainly belonged to Sri Lanka, but Pakistan had many chances. The team will be hoping to get a few more and take advantage of them in the remaining day’s play.
