http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
The tourists ended the session on 125 for the loss of four wickets. The star of the show for them was opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132, who battled his way to a solid half-century. He was unbeaten on 64 with the help of four boundaries.
However, the session certainly belonged to Pakistan, as the team picked up three big wickets of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691.
This leaves the Sri Lankan team in deep trouble, as they do not have much batting to come. The team will hope that Paranavitana stays out in the middle and scores a big one.
The left-handed opener will need some support from the other end and all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 will look to provide that.
Sri Lanka were in almost a similar position during the first Test of the three match series in Abu Dhabi. However, the team managed to draw the game, courtesy a solid batting display by Sangakkara and wicket keeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HAPW-Jayawardene-c1529.
Unfortunately for the team, the former got out in the morning session today and the latter is not playing due to an injury.
The session started with the visitors’ one down for 88 runs. They would have liked to keep wickets in tact in order to pressurise the opposition, but failed to do so.
Sangakkara was the first man to be dismissed in the day after scoring 30 runs. He was adjudged leg-before-wicket off the bowling of leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691.
Next to go was Mahela, who managed just five runs in an unimpressive outing. He was cleaned up by Saeed Ajmal’s off-spinner.
The Sri Lankan skipper was also unable to make an impression and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just three runs to the total. He became a victim of Junaid Khan’s in-swinging delivery.
The pitch in Dubai is offering plenty of spin and bounce to the bowlers and things look grim for Sri Lanka, who will need a miracle to survive this game.
