http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CRD-Fernando-c1292 proved to be the Sri Lankan danger-men on the 4th day of the ongoing 3rd Test at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium today on July 11, but Asad Shafiq effectively took over after centurion Azhar Ali’s dismissal, and propelled Pakistan to 299 at the expense of 8 wickets, enabling them to gain a 188-run lead by the time play ended for the day.
Sri Lanka ended Day 3 by establishing a 111-run lead over the Men In Green, and the tourists managed to reach 27 for 1 (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 (8) and Azhar Ali (6) at the crease by the time play ended.
Day 4 saw Hafeez bringing his individual score up to 52 before he was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325, who managed a mere 19-run contribution, bringing Pakistan up to 158 by the 53rd over, after which he was dismissed by Herath.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 was next up to bat, but he was just as disappointing as his predecessor, and scored a total of 5 runs before Herath stepped in, once again, and sent him back to the pavilion in the 57th over.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890 remained fixed at the crease throughout the flurry of fallen wickets, and brought his individual total up to a colossal 136. He was joined by Asad Shafiq (55*) and the duo established a substantial 5th wicket 100-run stand.
Fernando finally managed to claim the prized wicket of the 27-year-old right-hander in the 92nd over, but by this time, Pakistan had brought their total up to 276 for 5, gaining a 165-run lead. The right-arm medium-pacer went on to finish the day with figures of 20-1-65-3.
