International Cricket Stadium today on July 12.
Sri Lanka had answered http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559 on day 4, Pakistan eventually
managed to post a total of 380 today.
Day 5 started with Asad Shafiq (then at 55) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 (52) and Azhar
Ali (136) had managed to make sizeable contributions to the team total.
Asad Shafiq turned out to be Pakistan’s saving grace on the last day, bringing his individual total up to 100. Joined by Akmal (who managed a final score of 35), the two batsmen established an unbeaten 81-run partnership to bring their team up to 380, after
which Pakistan declared their innings.
The tourists set the Lankans a final target of 270 to chase, and the hosts got off to a fair start, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132 (22) and Chandimal (65) opening for their side.
Their partnership yielded a total of 44 runs, after which Paranavitana was caught out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037. Chandimal was then joined at the crease by Sangakkara (35*), and the two batsmen went on to establish a second-wicket partnership
of 88 runs.
By this time, Sri Lanka had reached 132, and were 138 runs short of the target, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 at mid off, on the second delivery
of the 38th over.
The dismissal marked the end of the second session, with Sri Lanka at 132 for 2. Sangakkara is due to be joined at the crease by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 once play resumes, and the two will be aiming to strike up a solid partnership in order to propel
their team to victory.
