Day 3 of the ongoing 3rd Test, being played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium today on July 10, saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NT-Paranavitana-c2132, Thilan Samaraweera, and Thisara Perera.
Day 1 had seen Pakistan finishing at 226 all out, after which Junaid Khan tore into the Lankan batting order, claiming the wickets of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Sami-c77289, reducing the
host to 44 for 3 by the end of the day.
After rain washed out the third day, opener Paranavitana (75), who was as yet unbeaten, finally got the chance to step up to the crease on Day 3 and add to his tally of 13 runs. He was joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 (73), and the partnership between the two
continued well into the match, leaving the Pakistani bowlers frustrated.
By the 62nd over, the 4th wicket stand had reached 143 runs, and got Sri Lanka up to a comfortable 187, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Dent-c41093 in the partnership, dismissing Samaraweera lbw.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AD-Mathews-c913 was the next up to bat, but did not manage to make any sizeable contributions, and became Junaid Khan’s third wicket of the match, dismissed for 9 in the 67th over. The pacer finished with figures of 5 for 70 from Sri Lanka’s first
innings.
Ajmal claimed his second victim in the 70th over, finally succeeding in sending Paranavitana back to the pavilion. However, by this point Sri Lanka had reached 204 for 6, and looked to be in the position to gain a lead over the Men In Green.
While http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 in the 81st over, Thisara Perera (75) and Nuwan Kulasekkara (33) struck up a valiant 8th wicket 84-run stand, which got their side
up to a sizeable 320.
Kulasekkara was sent packing by Junaid Khan, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037 rounded off his performance with Perera’s dismissal, and Sri Lanka
finished, all out, at 337, with a 111-run lead over the tourists.
