Beginning Day 3 (July 10) of the 3rd Test at 44 for 3, Sri Lanka started out strong, courtesy http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 – both of whom went on to score half-centuries – but the post-lunch session saw Pakistan working their way
back into the game as spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 broke up the increasingly threatening partnership between the two.
Day 1 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium had seen Pakistan racking up a total of 226 after the Lankans won the toss and chose to field, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037 claimed the wickets
of both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 (12), with the Lankans finishing at 44 for 3 on Day 1.
Day 2 was washed out due to rain, but the teams managed to get onto the field and resume play on Day 3. Paranavitana (75) started the day with an individual score of 13 runs, and was joined at the crease by Samaraweera (73). The two got off to a brisk start,
and managed to get their side up to 142 by lunch, by which point Paranavitana had brought his individual score up to 52 while Samaraweera had reached 45.
Pakistan grew increasingly frustrated as their opponents edged closer to their total, but Saeed Ajmal proved to be the breakthrough the Men In Green needed. By the 62nd over, the hosts had reached 187, but Ajmal intervened to break it up. Samaraweera
was dismissed, lbw, with the mammoth 143-run 4th wicket stand coming to an abrupt end.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for long, sent back to the pavilion by Junaid Khan in the 67th over, by which point the hosts were at 200 for 5.
Ajmal struck once again in the 70th over and Paranavitana was bowled out, but the Lankans had managed to reach a comfortable point. By tea time, the home team are at 220 for 6, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HAPW-Jayawardene-c1529 (11) and Thisara Perera (4) at the crease,
well-placed to gain a solid lead.
