West Indies gained an overall lead of 151 runs with nine wickets in hand against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 until lunch on day three of the second Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Bangladesh on Monday, October 31, 2011.
The tourists scored 27 for the loss of one wicket in their second innings. Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510 were unbeaten on 12 and 14 respectively.
The only wicket to fall in the Windies innings was of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kraigg-Brathwaite-c71708. He scored a solid half-century during his first outing, but was unfortunate to be dismissed without scoring this time around.
Brathwaite chipped one ball towards the on-side and hesitated before deciding to go for a run. This stutter did not allow him to make it to the crease and the fielder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-Islam-c2053 hit the ball directly at the stumps.
The right-handed batsman had to take a dejected walk back to the pavilion, as he was dismissed for a duck.
However, Powell and Edwards made some steady progress before the session came to an end. They batted cautiously and crawled to 27 runs in 14 overs.
The current run-rate of the Windies innings will not help them pressurising the opposition. The team gained a first innings lead of 124 runs and should have tried to bat aggressively at the start of their second outing.
However, the fall of one early wicket without any runs on the board would have put the team under pressure. Apart from that, Powell and Edwards are relatively new to Test cricket, which would have brought added pressure on their shoulders.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh also lost their final three wickets, which saw them all out for 231 runs. The team started day three’s proceedings on 204 for the loss of seven wickets.
