West Indies took a first innings lead of 123 runs against Bangladesh, but lost opener Kraigg Brathwaite without any runs on the board in the second innings of the second Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Bangladesh on Monday, October 31,
2011.
The hosts started day three with 204 runs on the board and seven wickets down. They only managed to score 27 more runs in the session before being all out for 231. Former skipper of the team Shakib-Al-Hasan was the top scorer with 73 runs.
The first wicket to fall for Bangladesh today was debutant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suhrawadi-Shuvo-c91688 who collected 15 runs with the help of one four. He was undone by some quality spin bowling from Devendra Bishoo.
Next to go was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nasir-Hossain-c77146, who played really well but fell short of a half-century by eight runs. He scored 42 runs with the help of four boundaries.
Just six runs later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 innings was wrapped up at 231.
Right-arm pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010 did a fabulous job for his side, picking up a five-wicket haul in the innings. He was a touch expensive, conceding runs at almost five runs per over. However, the express bowler made up for that by picking up wickets regularly.
Apart from that, leg-spinner Bishoo was once again impressive for the Windies. He picked up three wickets in the innings.
With almost three full days of cricket left, West Indies were in a terrific position. The team would have liked to score some quick runs in their second innings in order to put the opposition under pressure.
However, the tourists were unfortunate to lose on early wicket without any run on the board.
Opener Brathwaite pushed one ball towards square-leg, but hesitated to take the single. His partner at the other end http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441 took off and reached the batting end quickly.
After a slight hesitation, Brathwaite also ran but fell short of the crease by a big margin.
This put the Windies on the back foot straight away and they will now look to build up a partnership from here onwards.
