West Indies have stretched their overall lead above 250 with eight wickets remaining against Bangladesh in the second Test of the two match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Bangladesh on Monday, October 31, 2011.
The tourists had gained a first innings lead of 124 runs after dismissing the opposition for 231 runs in their first outing in the first session of play on day three.
Bangladesh’s top scorer was former skipper Shakib-Al-Hasan, who contributed 73 runs to the total with the help of nine boundaries. He played aggressive cricket, scoring his runs off just 74 deliveries.
However, the stylish left-handed batsman lacked support from the other end, which saw the team all out below 250.
There were a couple of decent performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Nasir-Hossain-c77146, who scored 45 and 42 runs respectively. The former was unfortunate to be run-out otherwise things could have been different for the hosts.
West Indian pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fidel-Henderson-Edwards-c57010 made the difference for his side in the first innings, as he scalped five wickets. He bowled really well and attacked the opposition with his pace and swing bowling.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Omar-Akeem-Powell-c71441 came out to open the innings for their side after a solid first innings lead. However, the pair failed to get off to a decent start. They had a misunderstanding at the start of the innings, which resulted in the former
getting run-out without adding a single run to the total.
Powell was also unable to get going this time around. He scored 72 runs in his first outing, but seemed to be under some pressure in the second innings.
The left-handed opener managed 12 runs in an unimpressive outing and was caught at mid-on in an attempt to loft the ball over the fielder.
The Windies had lost two wickets for 33 runs at that stage of the innings, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 rescued their side out of trouble with a solid partnership. Both batsmen scored half-centuries, guiding their team’s overall lead over 250.
Shakib picked up one wicket for Bangladesh whereas the other wicket came through some efficient fielding by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-c78451, who hit the stumps directly to run-out Brathwaite.
