LIVE – West Indies v India – 1st ODI – Windies steady after quick wickets – Match Update
West Indies were in a steady position after losing three quick wickets against India in the first One Day International (ODI) of the five match series at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.
At the end of 24 overs, the tourists managed to reach 107 runs for the loss of three wickets. Middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danza-Pacino-Hyatt-c52396 were unbeaten on 31 and 24 respectively.
Toss was won by the stand in Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, who opted to field first on a good batting pitch. However, he expected the conditions to become easier for the batsmen in the second half of the game.
Sehwag will be leading the side for the entire ODI series, as regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 had requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he wanted some time off in order to spend time with friends and family.
Coming back to the game, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-Barath-c886.
The pair has a very good understanding, as they open the innings for their local team Trinidad and Tobago as well.
However, things did not turn out to be ideal for the batsman at the start of the innings, as wickets fell quickly.
Barath looked in good touch, but was unable to make most of an aggressive start. He scored 17 runs off just 13 balls before getting caught behind to a lovely delivery from seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Vinay-Kumar-c2237.
First-drop http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Varun-Aaron-c2744.
Simmons had struggled at the start of his innings, but gained confidence after striking a couple of solid boundaries. He got out to a strange shot, attempting to cut a full and in-swinging ball from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625.
The ball took the inside edge and crashed into the stumps. Simmons was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 19 runs, as the team was in a spot of bother with 52/3.
However, Hyatt and Bravo have played decently since then and will look to continue batting like this until the batting power-play.
