West Indies went off to a bad start to their first innings against India in the second Test of the three match series at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in India on Tuesday, November 15, 2011.
The tourists lost opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-Barath-c886 early in the day after he scored just one run off four deliveries. He would have been extremely disappointed after missing out on a flat batting pitch, but might get another chance in the second innings.
Barath replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625, who is just playing the second Test of his career.
Yadav bowled a length ball at a very decent pace and it bounced at the batsman, who was unable to tackle the movement and bounce.
The ball took the edge of Barath’s bat and went flying to the hands of the slip fielder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sehwag-c2739, who held the ball safely.
The right-handed batsman got out after adding just one run to the total and the tourists were one down for just three runs on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kraigg-Brathwaite-c71708 was the next man to be dismissed in the innings after contributing 17 runs to the total. He looked good, but became a touch nervous once spinners were introduced at both ends.
India’s promising young spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Ashwin-c2228 was once again impressive with the ball and got rid of Brathwaite.
The West India opener attempted to play a defensive shot off the sharp turning ball from Ashwin and could only manage an edge to it.

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Anton-Edwards-c71510 came out to bat for their team after the fall of the openers. However, the match was stopped due to bad light with the visitors in a spot of bother at 34 for the loss of two wickets.
Edwards and Bravo were batting on 12 and 4 before the play was stopped. They will need a solid partnership for the third wicket in order to come anyway near to India’s first innings total of 631/7 (declared).
