South Africa got off to a shaky start in their 177-run chase against Zimbabwe in the 3rd match of the ongoing tri-series at the Harare Sports Club on June 20, reaching a mere 80 at the expense of an astonishing 4 wickets by the 10th
over.
The Proteas bowling attack had featured some fairly lacklustre performances such as Lonwabo Tsotsobe’s 4-0-31-0, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Ontong-c1704’s 1-0-14-0, in addition to a clumsy fielding performance, which saw them dropping a total of two catches.
Taking advantage of the loopholes in the Proteas’ performance, Zimbabwe managed to post a total of 176, courtesy a spectacular 114-run opening stand by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BRM-Taylor-c1200.
The target appeared to be an easy one for the Proteas, currently the second best T20 team on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamisi-Abdallah-c61368, after having
contributed an unbeaten 88 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CB-Mpofu-c1219 in the 3rd over.
Levi went on to score a total of 40 off 28 after which he was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Colin-Alexander-Ingram-c51381 (17) partnered with Justin Ontong (4), and in their efforts to bring their team back on track, the two managed to bring the
total up to 79 runs.
However, the 10th over proved disastrous for the tourists, as they lost two consecutive wickets to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AG-Cremer-c947. The spinner intervened to eliminate Ontong, who was caught out by Utseya, and followed it up with wicketkeeper batsman Dane Vilas’
dismissal on duck.
Vilas was succeeded to the pitch by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742, who has managed a 1-run contribution by the end of the 10th over, with South Africa at a precarious 80 for 4, with a further 97 runs required from 60 balls.
While the obvious loss of confidence, and the early fall of the top order may make it a challenging target to chase for South Africa, they still have Ingram, Duminy, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JA-Morkel-c1613 to fall back on. Meanwhile the turn of events provides Zimbabwe the exciting
prospect of victory against the top-class tourists.
