LIVE update Pakistan v West Indies - Pakistan decimate the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 for 112
There was a lot of pressure on both the sides as they faced each other for the first quarter final of the ICC world Cup 2011, however it was Pakistan that responded in spectacular fashion decimating the West Indian batting line up for 112 runs. Winning the
toss and electing to bat, it was expected that the Windies would put up a challenging total against the men in green however, their hopes were dampened as Umar Gul took the early wicket of Chris Gayle. Gayle could not time the ball to perfection presenting
a relatively difficult opportunity of a catch to the skipper, who held on to the ball like a piece of holy grail.
It was from then onwards that the West Indian’s could not really find stability in their innings. It seemed as if they did not have a strong game plan with their batting all over the place. Mohammad Hafeez was brilliant as he bowled with the new ball, giving
the West Indian batsmen ample trouble. He took two wickets in the same over, both the batsmen, trapped leg before to increase the pressure on the West Indian side. Unfortunately Sammy and his men could not pace their innings which might be the discerning factor
between a victory and a loss.
As for the fans they could not have been happier, since the West Indian side had annihilated the Bengali batting line up for less than 60 runs in the group stage matches. The indigenous spectators were supporting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 as the men in green ripped their
way into the oppositions batting line up. Afridi was inspirational as a captain and most of all the fielding was tidy, with Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan amongst others doing a good job.
The next to depart was Sarwan who was dismissed on a rather wide delivery pitched a fair bit outside the off stump. Afridi gave the ball flight to produce bounce that caught the batsman unwary who carved it straight into the hands of Umar Akmal.
Pollard the man in form, was the next man on the crease and he departed almost as soon as he had come. Pollard is not the best player of leg spin and most importantly when he comes in to play against the best leg spinner in the ODI format, it was not hard
to predict that he would have trouble batting against him. Afridi bowled his patent quicker one that came in with an angle darting in on the length and not deviating much outside the off stump. The only miracle in this dismissal was that Kamran held a good
catch and Pollard was on his way back to the Pavilion.
Thus the West Indian’s crumbled with Saeed Ajmal bowling beautifully in his spells. Many of his deliveries were virtually unplayable as he flirted around with the doosra. It was this very delivery that got the better of the West Indian skipper, trapped leg
before stump. The only saving grace for the West Indian side was towards the end where Roach and Chanderpaul gave some resistance against the Pakistan bowling.
Only everyone knew that it was just a matter of time before they succumb under pressure and that is just what happened. Afridi lead from the front taking four brilliant wickets the last one a googly that pitched outside the leg stump that came in to hit
the leg and middle stump. Afridi now has bagged 21 scalps in the tournament and is the leading wicket taker of the mega event by a mile. Abdul Razzaq took one wicket, while Hafeez and Ajmal both took two wickets.
All in all it has been a spectacular performance from the men in green. Given that they now have an upper hand over the West Indian side, they can afford to promote some players up the order. The skipper can come in to open for his side, this would be a
good opportunity for Afridi to let loose.
