LIVESTRONG reaches out in South Tahoe
The golfing Tournament recently arranged by LIVESTRONG has been quite a success and is one of the longest running tournaments. The money thus generated from the tournament has been put to good use and a total of $ 102,377 has been
distributed to local organizations alone. A number of non profit organizations in South Tahoe, California will be receiving this amount from the company LIVESTRONG.
According to latest reports, the non profit organizations will be receiving this amount due to their contributions. The amount thus scheduled to be given is through LIVESTRONG and its alliance with the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority
and the American Century Championship.
LIVESTRONG is a foundation that was established for the sole purpose of inspiring and empowering all those who have been affected by cancer. The institution was formed by the famous cyclist and cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong
and aims to find new ways to facilitate those with the cancer experience.
According to Carol Chaplin who is the executive director of the LTVA, LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments have been able to provide a situation that is win-win in nature. He said that the tournament has resulted
into the largest South Shore event and has been the host to a lot of media attention resulting in great financial support to the local community and the businesses.
The non profit organizations mentioned are 19 in count and the cheque would be issued to each representative of the area organization. These representatives will be presented with $ 102,377 at the LTVA board of directors meeting
this month.
According to Jon Miller who is the Executive Vice President of NBC Sports, he perceives the residents, the players and the event as one. He said that the dwellers in Lake Tahoe area are an equal part of the event as the players
are and their current decision is to walk towards making a significant difference. The EVP said that the American Century Championship is what will help them achieve a significant difference. He said that they are striving towards having a positive impact
and has a word of honour of contributing to the community service initiators annually.
The recipients chosen for the charitable contribution was based on a three criteria the level of need, the measurability and the impact. The level of need was determined within the organization, the level of impact along with the
benefit determines the impact to the community of the South Lake Tahoe and the measurability is for the success.
The next event will be held in 2011 at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course on 12th to 17th July.
