L’Illustre published the emails exchanged between Vinokourov and Kolobnev related to 100,000 Euros
Swiss magazine L’Illustre has accused Alexander Vinokourov of buying the 2010 Liege-Bastogne-Liege and also claimed that emails have been exchanged between him and Alexandr Kolobnev. The magazine has now published the emails exchanged between the two cyclists.
Kolobnev has admitted that he let Vinokourov win at the Liege-Bastogne-Liege 2010 in an email as he wrote, “Not so much because of our agreement, but mostly because of my feelings towards you and towards your situation. Even my wife was not too uneasy by the fact that I was second, because you were the first”.
Vinokourov reassured his fellow cyclist that he does not need to worry about anything as he has taken care of the matter.
Kolobnev replied to the email right after the race as he wrote, "my balls may be cut off” if it came out that he was receiving payment.
“You remember that, for me it was a great chance. I do not know if I was right to do what I did,” wrote Kolobnev shortly after the race.
Kolobnev also explained that he is feeling strong and will only sacrifice the race for him and is also concerned about the Belgian riders winning the event.
The Russian cyclist forwarded his bank details to Vinokourov and also suggested him to delete the emails from his inbox.
Vinokourov thanked Kolobnev and told him not to worry about anything else as he will take care of the agreement between them.
As per the magazine Kolobnev has already admitted that he let Vinokourov win because of his sympathies with the cyclist.
Alexander, when asked about the payments, replied that it is his personal matter and no one is allowed to interfere. He also mentioned that payments are often made through his account and there is nothing wrong about it.
The latest update on the case came through a statement from Team Astana as Vinokourov has decided to take legal action against the magazine.
He also claimed that the media is spoiling his image and why else would the news break out right after the announcement of his candidacy in the coming elections.
