I am a stay at home- homeschooling mom of a 6 year old girl, with 3 younger boys. I strongly agree with every aspect of homeschooling, however my husband strongly disagrees. This is a very tender subject for us as parents, so I hope that by the results of this poll, it will help one of us to compromise on the issue. I hope to get an answer from everyone that has ever homeschooled so please answer the poll questions first, then feel free to add your own personal experiences at the end. I will try to tally all responses and post an update at the end of each week, so please check back. I hope to get an answer from not only the parents, but the students as well. I am extremely interested to know what the students have been exposed to and whether they enjoyed one more than the others. Please cut and paste the blank poll below (if more than one student, seperate by commas).

On a scale of 0 to 10, zero being strongly dislike and ten being love it, please rate the first three questions below. Please note n/a if you have not experienced one.

    private school n/a

    age 19

    grade college

My mom and aunt home schooled me from the time I was preschool age.  I was able to graduate from high school 2 years earlier being home schooled than if I stayed in the public school.  I was in public school for a couple of years and it was a total waste of time.  I am 19, graduated from high school almost 3 years ago, am in college and already have a certification in computer science.  I have a job, a girlfriend and a very active social life.  My dad didn't originally want my mom to home school me but even he agreed that she decided to do the best thing when she took me out of the public school.

  2. I do home school, however, I disagree with your question because you are grouping all the schools together.  Not all public schools are bad and not all private schools are great.  On the other hand not all parents are great home-school teachers either.

My goal is to give my daughter the very best education that I can afford to give her.  Do I home-school, yes!  But, if I lived 10 min. east of where I do she would be in the public school...their proficiency scores are PERFECT 29 out of 29!  Unfortunately, our local public school is 11 out of 29 and earned a "continuous improvement" remark.

I cannot afford a private education at over $5,00.00 plus per year and climbing!  So all I can say is, "Thank God for K12"!!!

They are a public school, but my daughter learns everything right here at home.  She has a real teacher + me and their curriculum is out of this world and in my state it is FREE!!!  And in the end she will receive a DIPLOMA not a GED!!!

*Note: Men speak and hear in blue and women speak and hear in pink...is he really complaining about WHERE the children are educated?

  3. Home school: 10

    Public school: 0

    Private school: 5

    Relationship to student: mother/educator

Student's age: Home schooled from age 3-8 public schooled from age 8-12, home schooled again from age 12-16, graduated from high school and was accepted to college at age 16.

    Student's age: 19

    Student's grade: In college

Having experienced both home school and public school with my son I have to say the education and socialization offered with home schooling is FAR superior to what is offered in the public school system.  Home schoolers are allowed to socialize with all types of people from all different backgrounds; not just 25 other kids their own age from their own neighborhood.  A home schooled child is actually taught to think and have problem solving skills, not just to memorize standard answers.

Your child will have no social life, will spend LOTS of time in the house on the computer (Technology).

Public school, your child will make friends, learn new things, engage in sports etc.
