LMA Legal Advisors Giving Advice to Sacked Chelsea Assistant Manager Ray Wilkins
Former assistant manager at Chelsea, Ray Wilkins, has said that he will be taking legal advice in order to reach a friendly solution after his unfair dismissal from the club. Eyebrows were raised after Wilkins was set free from
his job at Chelsea and now it seems that some of the mystery surrounding this dismissal will be solved.
Ray Wilkins was enjoying a great time at Chelsea until two weeks ago. An unexpected development occurred when Wilkins was told that his contract would not be renewed, forcing him to move out of the Blues. After Wilkins left the
side, Chelsea was dealt an immediate blow to their campaign this season. Chelsea hosted Sunderland and in a bizarre turn of events the Blues lost by a difference of three goals. There is no doubt that Wilkins had a lot of say in first-team football at Chelsea,
but manager Carlo Ancelotti said that the defeat was not an outcome of losing Wilkins as his assistant.
After keeping the job vacant for almost a week, Chelsea appointed Michael Emenalo as the new assistant manager. Nigerian Emenalo joined Chelsea in 2007, under Avram Grant, and worked as an opposition scout for the club. As the
opposition scout, Emenalo was entrusted with the job to prepare reports on Chelsea’s oppositions before the match to help the manager in making tactical preparations. Emenalo worked tremendously well in his role as the Head Opposition Scout for Chelsea, so
he was highly tipped to move into a position working as a coach of the first-team.
Although the job was given to Emenalo, Chelsea knew that he had no prior experience in coaching. Therefore, it was suggested that the new assistant manager would keep on supervising the scouting of the club while slowly making
a transition into coaching the first-team. However, Carlo Ancelotti did not seem particularly happy with this decision. After his appointment as his assistant, Ancelotti told the media that Emenalo would not be involved with the first-team. Rather, he would
only be a titular assistant coach, still working as a head scout.
Therefore, from the very beginning the whole drama was shrouded with mystery. Everyone was sure that the decision was not made by Ancelotti. The manager himself praised his assistant for playing a big part in Chelsea’s double crown,
the Premier League title and the FA Cup, last season. Wilkins was given most of the credit for coaching Chelsea’s first-team and he enjoyed the full confidence of his manager. Therefore, his dismissal had nothing to do with his manager and it probably involved
Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea.
After his mysterious dismissal, Wilkins spoke to the media for the first time in two weeks. There were a lot of questions that needed to be answered but Wilkins had kept quiet over the issue. Now, he is seeking legal assistance
from the lawyers of League Managers Association. In a statement issued by the LMA, Wilkins showed his disappointment with the board’s decision that his services were not required at Chelsea. Wilkins said in the statement that he enjoyed good relationship with
the staff and players at Chelsea, so apparently there was no good reason to make him leave the club. Wilkins kept a bit quiet on the issue, on the advice of LMA, as he would speak through his legal advisors.
The chief executive of LMA, Richard Bevan showed his disappointment over the matter as well. He believed that Wilkins had been wronged as his services for the club had been neglected. Chelsea also issued the statement hinting towards
a discussion with Wilkins’ lawyers, but kept the matters that came under discussion as confidential.
Probably nothing will come out of this situation, but it will help solve some mysteries surrounding the matter. In the meantime, Chelsea can only hope that they do not suffer more than they already have after losing an important
person involved in their recent success.
