LOCOG to carry out massive security test in London’s subway – London Olympics 2012
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games is getting ready to carry out a large scale security exercise in the city of London that would target the subway system.
More specifically, the security test for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games will subject the subway of the capital of England with a pseudo emergency situation so that the security personnel get an idea of what they might be dealing with when the Olympic
Games start from July 27.
Chris Allison, who is the Assistant Commissioner as well as the national Olympic security coordinator, commented on the security test in the following words, “It is testing communications right from the very bottom from the constable or fire officer who
is responding right the way up to Cobra, (the government's emergency committee). We need to be confident that we have the right people in the right places, that we understand how others operate and that we are talking to each other at the right levels and
in the right way.”
The format of the security test planned for the Games is to have an emergency situation on one of the busiest days of the Olympics. The security personnel have not been informed of the exact details of the security situation that will be at hand because
the ability to cope with an unexpected security situation is also included in the planned test.
The Olympic security test has been given the name of ‘Forward Defensive’ and will be carried out at the Aldwych Tube station. The time at which the emergency situation will be imposed at the subway location will be mid morning. The security test will not
be completed in a few hours, rather, a total of two days will be required to carry it out fully. The two-day Olympic security test will be making use of 2,500 people as well.
The test is being carried out in order to generate confidence both in the public as well as the security personnel of the London 2012 Olympic Games as security would need to ensure the safeguard of the people until August 12, when the Games end.
