LOS ANGELES LAKERS TAKE HOME THEIR 16th NBA CHAMPIONSHIP

The Los Angeles Lakers steering on from their game 6 momentum managed to continue with their great form and a well planned team work strategy to bamboozle the Boston Celtics to win their 16th NBA championship. The Celtics once again paid the heavy price of not paying attention in the fourth quarter.

If you ask NBA fans about the historic facts of the game, you can’t miss out on the topic of the rivalry between the LA Lakers and the Boston Celtics.

The hatred, emotion and determination when these two teams meet at the basketball courts are noting less than dramatic.

Historically, the Lakers have lost majority of the times that these two teams have met and thus the fact adds a bit more excitement for the Los Angeles camp, as they go home with the cup, the title and the sweet taste of success.

The new millennium has been good so far for the men in yellow and gold, as it has seen the emergence of Kobe Bryant and has taken the LA Lakers back to the top. So far in the past five years they have won three consecutive NBA championships and have advanced to the finals four times.

The past ten years have been full of their ups and down for the Lakers, but whenever they have been up against the Boston Celtics, they have more often been victims of bad news. As Celtics have the honour of being the only ones who have caused the Lakers great suffering and potential wins in eight championship match ups.

But all this changed yesterday as in came the 2010 championship with the LA Lakers once again facing the green machines, a sight the Lakers try to avoid but when put face to face to do back out from going all out and displaying their skills with the ball.

The Lakers wanted revenge this time around and since they had the confidence of having won 14 other rings. The priorities on the list were straight forward simple and to the point with the crux, being only one thing and that was to beat Boston. With yesterdays, final game seven doing just that as the Lakers took revenge in style for all these years of suffering and especially the humiliation of 2008.

For individual accomplishments it was Kobe Bryant’s fifth championship and this puts him on the elite list of great Laker players such as George Mikan, Magic Johnson, and James Worthy.

The win also put an end to the constant criticism that the LA players had been facing throughout the season and also for the first time ever, the new generation of the Lakers fans tasted victory against Boston.

How the games progressed was that the Celtics started off beautifully with great ball movements as they got into a lead in the first three quarters; however, it was the fourth quarter that turned the pendulum into the favour of Los Angeles.

Ray Allen fouled Kobe Bryant on a three-point shot, the Celtics went off on individual tangents and the most disappointing factor of the match was that Rajon Rondo did not take over when the team needed him too. He fell back into his defer to Pierce mode and thus it wasn't a pretty game for Boston, as they had only themselves to blame for the loss, after pure domination in the first three quarters.

With that said, all credit goes to the Lakers who took advantage of the situation and thus benefited from the lapse in concentration from the Boston players to win the 7th game and the Championship 89-67.

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol were instrumental in the win, as Bryant led all scorers with 26 points and 11 rebounds, while Gasol was one assist away from a triple-double with 17 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.

For the Celtics Ray Allen led with 19 points.
