LOSC Lille get back to winning ways after beating Dijon FCO – Ligue 1 news
Reigning French Ligue 1 champions LOSC Lille showed no signs of a Champions League hangover after Rudi Garcia’s men effectively disposed of Dijon FCO 2-0 at the Stade Metropole in Week 17 of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign.
Following a 0-0 draw against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Trabzonspor-c40759 in their last group of the UEFA Champions League, Les Dogues crashed out of the competition. However, the French champions showed why they are the champions after Eden Hazard and Moussa Sow scored a goal apiece in
a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Dijon.
The win was certainly an important one for the side from Northern http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 as it now keeps Lille five points away from Lyon who are in fourth place. Furthermore, Les Dogues are just two points off the top spot that is currently occupied by Montpellier and
Paris Saint-Germain with Montpellier on top due to a superior goal difference.
In their eight away games (before this one), Dijon had conceded a whooping 18 goals and the newboys were bound to be tested to the limit by the French champions.
However, much to the shock of the Lille fans, Dijon almost got a lead. However, keeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mickaël-Landreau-c25513 was able to deny Benjamin Corgnet.
Soon after Brice Jovial once again tested the Lille shot-stopper who was equal to the Frenchman’s rasping attempt.
However, Lille quickly silenced the Dijon attack thanks to yet another goal by Moussa Sow. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 international is not as prolific as he was last season but once again showed why he is one of the most lethal strikers in Europe after he headed in a Mathieu
Debuchy cross to give Lille a well-deserved lead.
Despite so much difference in quality between the two sides, Dijon to their credit did not back down and Corgnet almost had his seventh goal of the season. A Younousse Sankhare shot was saved by Landreau but the ball fell right into the path of Corgnet whose
header narrowly missed the goal.
Landreau was finally beaten when Corgnet beautiful cross was excellently headed in by Thomas Guerbert. However, the Frenchman’s header hit the woodwork much to the relief of Landreau.
However, it was Lille who were to show their attacking quality which allows the Northerners to make their own luck. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Eden-Hazard-c11863 gave Dijon another harsh lesson about the adversities of life in France’s top flight.
The young midfielder glided past Mehdi Courgnaud and after a brief exchange of passes with first http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Moussa-Sow-c26939, last season’s LFP player of the year beat Dijon custodian Baptiste Reynet with a good finish.
The second goal simply sapped the life out of Dijon who failed to muster any clear chances at goal. Sow and Cole both came close to make the scoreline look even more grim for the visitors but it remained 2-0 after full-time.
