While talking to RMC, LOSC Lille president http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453 Seydoux leapt to the defence of winger Dimitri Payet who joined the club last summer from AS Saint-Etienne and has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings
LOSC Lille signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitri-Payet-c11276 from fellow Ligue 1 outfit AS Saint-Etienne last summer. Les Dogues paid Les Verts 9 million Euros for the services of the talented winger.
From 2007 to 2011, Payet became one of the brightest prospects in Ligue 1 and in his last season for Les Verts, the Frenchman scored 13 goals and provided 3 assists in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Rhone outfit.
Upon his arrival at Villeneuve d’Ascq, a lot was expected of Payet who had been touted for success at Lille. Furthermore, Rudi Garcia brought the youngster as a direct replacement for Cote d’Ivoire international Gervinho who had signed for English Premier
League side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 FC.
With so much weight of expectation on him, Payet gave a good account of his skills in the preseason but things drastically changed when he injured himself.
Upon his arrival, Payet struggled to adapt to his new surroundings and even though he has scored 2 goals and provided 3 assists in his debut campaign, the jury is still out on the Reunion-born winger.
However, amidst harsh criticism, LOSC Lille president, Michel Seydoux has leapt to the defence of Payet and says that the player will find his feet soon.
Seydoux compared Payet’s problems with that of Gervinho. The latter arrived at the club with a lot of expectation but failed to shine from the word go. And Seydoux believes that Payet will be back at his best if he is given time.
“I remember http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 in his infancy. He had trouble too. Dimitri has had it rough. He did not play like he did at Saint-Etienne. We trust him and know all about his talent. He has not yet expressed himself but it (form) will come.”
Certainly, the president’s words would be welcomed by the winger who has shown flashes of genius in his debut campaign for Les Dogues but is yet to justify his price-tag.
