LOW INCOME HOMEBUYING GRANTS?? DO THEY EXIST?

my husband to be and i are hoping to buy our first home by next spring and were hoping to make it as inexpensive as possible. i hear a lot about, grants, government and state, but it seems like everytime i look at a site they just want a credit card, shouldnt all government information free, where do i go for some help?

  1. I agree with the above poster look at state programs/agencies.  Below is the link to a Texas agency that has a TON of information about programs, grants, low interest loans etc..

    I would see if you can find a similar agency in your state and start there for info...

  2. I believe it is best to look state to state (not government), for instance my state has an assistance program to help low income first time buyers get their down payment. It is a loan, not grant but there is almost no interest on it. (like 1.5%) Also, sometimes you can get assistance with getting 100%  financing for first time buyers, as well. I would look to your state housing department, they can also give you a lot of other information about the process. At my state housing department, all the information and help was free.

  3. Any local loan officer will know about all of the programs available to you, grants can come from your state or city.    Talk to one of them and they will tell you what you may qualify for.
