LPGA 2012 season is finally under way
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour has finally started, with a host of events scheduled for the 2012 season.
Thanks to the keen interest and efforts of the LPGA officials, the Tour completed the procedures required to map out the schedule and arrange events.
Mike Whan, LPGA Commissioner played a pivotal role in getting all the required deals done  and now the Tour has successfully got off the ground.
The Tour has formally kicked off by staging the Women’s Australian Open at Royal Melbourne.
In order to make sure everything is headed in the right direction, LPGA came up with a new idea. Mike Whan put up a dry board in his office, which was marked with black and blue colours.
When asked why he felt the need to fix the dry board showing the colours, Whan said that the black colour is meant to show the deals that have already been done, while the blue patch is for deals that are still pending.
"It's a blip if we have a nice ramp up and then ball back down," said Whan,
Whan disclosed that LPGA has been going through rough times and has not been able to do what it was supposed to do.
He expressed his hope that LPGA will dispel all the concerns that cropped up after the cancellation of some of the events last year.
LPGA had been successfully organising prestigious events and running its affairs smoothly for decades. However, a few months ago, it found itself in an unwanted situation.
Its Springfield event was cancelled due to the absence of sponsorship, which seriously undermined the Tour’s credibility.
This was not the first time that the LPGA had disappointed fans and the golfing community. It has done things like this in the past that caused many people to raise an eyebrow.
For instance, imperial springs LPGA 2011, which was also cancelled due to sponsorship problems.
"It took a year to take us from negative momentum to positive momentum, and the next year to turn that positive momentum into success".
Sponsorships have long been a problem for LPGA but the steps recently taken by the officials will prove beneficial.
It was stated, "If we want more customers, it's not because we're focusing on customers we don't have. It's going to be focusing on customers we do have. Because everybody who signs a long-term deal is going to talk to three of our customers".
