LPGA Championship 2012: Cristie Kerr falls two spots in world rankings, but firm to repeat 2010 performance this year
American Cristie Kerr has not lost all hope, even after finishing tied for 40th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, but a considerable drop in her ranking appears to be troubling her.
Kerr is gearing up to participate in the 2012 edition of the LPGA Championship, scheduled to be held from June 7-10, at Locust Hill Country Club Pittsford, New York, with an aim to boost her ranking once again.
The American prodigy won the 2010 edition of the major tournament. However, it remains to be seen how she is going to repeat what she did two years ago on the same course.
Kerr displayed a worse-than-average performance in the ShopRite LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Classic, which put a dent in her ranking. She dipped 2 spots to currently stand at the 7th
place in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
However, the player has decided to put her grim past behind, as she has vowed to do her best in the upcoming battle. Golf commentators said that the American star seems to be in high spirits despite recording
a poor finish and facing a two-spot slump in her ranking.
Kerr needs to improve several aspects of her game, as she has been finding it hard to focus on her swing. Sources tell that the golfing sensation has been training hard on the practice range and has managed
to improve her putting.
In the last tournament, Kerr was seen struggling to make calculated shots. She had to rely heavily on winds — something, analysts said, raise concerns and she should think about revamping her game.
Having racked up 20 professional titles, Kerr is among the big names and she is usually considered a hot favourite for most of the tournaments. She has recorded 14 wins on the LPGA Tour.
In addition to proving her mettle on the LPGA Tour, the pro star has also grabbed one title on the Futures Tour.
The LPGA Championship may not be easy for Kerr, but she is firm to claw her way back into the top five. According to the tournament details, the field is featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA contenders.
Prominent players include the current world number one, Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, who won the ShopRite LPGA Classic, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, Suzann Pettersen, Karrie Webb of Australia, Ai Miyazato of Japan,
among others.
