LPGA Championship 2012: Paula Creamer tied for 2nd at the end of the second round
American Paula Creamer was more than happy at the end of the second round of the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012, as she boosted her position to tie 2nd after posting a 72.
Creamer exhibited a solid performance right from the start of the round. The tournament is being played at Locust Hill Country Club, New York, with a strong field featuring strong LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
The American star kicked off the round with plenty of confidence, but faltered on the very first hole. She made a bogey, as she could not judge the hole and eventually lost a chance to make an equal-par score.
She regained her composure on the par-4 3rd and scored a birdie. On the difficult par-3 9th, she stunned the spectators once again and drained her second birdie.
On the back nine, Creamer could not maintain the momentum, as she recorded one birdie and one bogey. However, she managed to improve her position on the leaderboard— something analysts said will help the golf star keep the pressure high on her rivals.
Creamer is standing tied with three other contenders, which reflects that she may find it hard to keep her position intact. The top spot is currently seized by South Korean Se Ri Pak.
Speaking at the end of the second round, the 25-year-old star said that jumping to second spot is great, but she is facing a tough time from her strong rivals.
Creamer said that she will try to ramp up pressure on the contenders in the next round, as big names, like Suzann Pettersen, have also boosted their position.
Golf commentators said that the American prodigy looked confident, as she was firm to atone for past lapses.
Creamer talked to the media after finishing her round, saying she could get off to a solid start, but later she rebounded by scoring a birdie on the 3rd hole.
“I started out with a bogey but got it right back on the third hole with a birdie.  I hit the ball off the tee, I think, better than I did yesterday, just unfortunately didn't take advantage as much with my irons,” she said.
“When you get those opportunities for birdies is really when you have to take advantage of it.  I have been trying to do that more this week than I think any other week”.
