LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012: Brittany Lincicome rises to the seventh position in final round
American Brittany Lincicome shot an overall score of 209 at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 to finish tied for the seventh position along with five other contenders.
Lincicome is one of the rising LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars in the United States, which is why her fans expected her to display a decent performance at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea.
The American star opened the first round on Friday with full confidence. She was determined to tear apart rivals, especially the South Koreans.
However, a 72 in the first round was not something to give her a fast start, but the LPGA titan gradually improved her position on the leaderboard in the next two rounds.
Although not many spectators rooted for an ambitious Lincicome, her game became more solid as the match rolled into its second day.
She shot a 70 on Saturday to give her some space on the leaderboard, but there was still so much to be done before she could finally find a spot inside the top 10.
The second round saw Lincicome post four birdies and two bogeys, which helped her strengthen her position.
She picked up pace and her driver started launching perfect hits that earned her six birdies in the third and final round.
Lincicome amazed the South Korean spectators both on the front nine and the back nine, as she drained two straight birdies on the 4th and 5th hole.
On the back nine, she sent the crowd shouting out loud after she sank three straight birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15th hole.
It was a steep jump, which saw Lincicome rise from tie-22 to tie-7 in the last round.
Commentators said that a near-flawless performance in the final round proved to be a game changer, helping her gain a position inside the top 10.
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen did her best at the tournament, outperforming Scottish Catriona Matthew in playoff as she drained a birdie on the third extra hole.
“I just really tried to hang in there. I tried not to even look what was going on around me because it would just stress me out. Just really tried to stick to my own game plan, which I had to readjust after like eight holes,” Pettersen said while talking to the LPGA in the last round on Sunday.
