LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012: So Yeon Ryu slips to seventh position in final round
South Korean So Yeon Ryu, who got off to a dazzling start at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012, could not maintain her momentum in the final round as she shot a 73 to finish tied for the seventh position on the leaderboard.
Ryu looked more than thrilled at the end of the opening round of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament, at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, as she fired a massive 66 to gain a comfortable position on the leaderboard.
Although the line-up featured big names, Ryu was confident to carry on in the same pace in the second round as well, as she posted a 70 to reach the second position on the leaderboard.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the second round on Saturday, Ryu said that she was happy with her performance and would try to further boost her position in the final round.
“Well, especially ‑‑ I always play really great at the front nine, but the front nine pin positions were really tough, and even today the weather is really like a little chilly and wind really strong,” the South Korean golfer said.
“But especially hole 6 is kind of a really tough hole, but pin position was so rough and green was into wind, and it was really hard to stop on the green.  I got a par there. Well, the problem today is weather is really chilly”.
Some of the key contenders who finished strong on Sunday included current world number one Yani Tseng, who was also the defending champion of the tournament.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi, Suzann Pettersen, Catriona Matthew of Scotland, Lexi Thompson, Se Ri Pak, Sandra Gal, Brittany Lincicome, Azahara Munoz, Karin Sjodin, Jiyai Shin and Inbee Park were also present in the field.
The last round did not go as solid as Ryu wanted it to, because she made mistakes on some of the holes.
She parred the first five holes and tainted her scorecard by carding bogeys on the par-4 6th and par-3 8th hole.
On the back nine, she shot a lone birdie on the par-5 18th in a bid to improve her position on the leaderboard, but had to face disappointment after she slipped from the second to a tie of seventh position.
