LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 to be staged from October 19 in South Korea
The LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 is set to be played from October 19-21, at Incheon, South Korea, with the participation of not only the top-ranked Asian contenders, but also the LPGA
(Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars from across the globe.
Since the Hana Bank Championship is being staged in Asia, South Korea, it is expected that the local stars will be capitalising on crowd support and course conditions.
Observers said that Asia is going to stage the next three LGPA tournaments, something that is keeping fans and the players all hyped up.
South Korea, which has a huge representation in women’s golf these days, has come out as the next hot spot after the United States, as the country’s courses meet all the standards and offer
amenities that spectators and players usually go after.
Current world number one Yani Tseng, who is the defending champion of the Hana Bank Championship as she won the last edition of the tournament, will be eyeing the title once again, but it
remains to be seen how the LPGA giant ends her winning drought.
On the other hand, the main attraction will be South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who won two back-to-back titles in 2009 and 2010. Since Choi is a local player and boasts a massive fan following
in the country, she is likely to steal the show this year too.
Speaking to the media about her plans for this year’s edition, Yani Tseng said that she is glad to be back in South Korea, but what is keeping her motivated is a stunning victory she grabbed
last year.
“I am always very happy to be back here and have so many family here supporting, my mom and my sister is going to be here this week, too, so I feel like I'm ready for my game. I was a little
struggling last week, but I think I'm kind of back to how I played before,” said Tseng who is under intense scrutiny these days as she has not been able to perform well in the recent past.
The top-ranked prodigy has worked hard with her coach Gary Gilchrist for the tournament, and she is confident that she will improve her performance this time.
“I love this golf course, and I always play good here, so very looking forward to Friday”.
