LPGA Lotte Championship: Lexi Thompson fails to make the cut
Lexi Thompson got off to an unimpressive start in the LPGA Lotte Championship, as she failed to make the cut.
Lexi Thompson, who displayed a decent performance in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, could not repeat her consistent form in the $1.7 million tournament.
She finished tied for the 22nd at the first major tournament of the 2012 season, despite the fact that the field featured some of the biggest names in the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Although analysts had predicted that Thompson would likely put pressure on her rivals at the LPGA Lotte Championship, played at Ko Olina Golf Club, the American star posted poor scores in the first two rounds.
Thompson faced trouble at the end of the first round, as she stood tied for the 69th after carding a 75.
She started the opening round with confidence, as she received a big round of applause after a draining her first birdie on the difficult par-3 4th.
Although she looked fired up at the start, the rising star lost momentum and ended up shooting two bogeys on the front nine. On the back nine, she looked even more nervous, as she scored two birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.
In addition to tricky holes, Thompson had to battle tough weather at Ko Olina Golf Club. With strong winds whipping through the course, she found it hard to focus on her strokes.
Analysts said that the blustery weather caused trouble for most of the players — something even top-ranked contenders admitted at the end of the concluding round.
She entered into the second round with an even lousier game, as she carded a 76. She recorded six bogeys and two birdies.
Despite performing below average at Hawaii, experts have said that Thompson will likely fix her lapses in the upcoming events, as she has resilience.
The American prodigy once conceded in one of her interviews that she has a long way to go before she can think of battling LPGA giants.
"I'm still learning so much every day out here," she admitted. "But, I get to travel to places and do things that most people only dream about doing. I'm very lucky".
