LPGA Lotte Championship: Major winner Yoo falters in the second round
Sun Young Yoo, who had vowed to keep her momentum going after hoisting her major trophy at the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012, got off to an unimpressive start at the LPGA Lotte Championship, standing tied for the 28th after the second round.
Yoo battled a strong field at the $1.7 million tournament at Ko Olina Golf Club, Hawaii, which comprises fearsome contenders on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
With strong winds sweeping through the course, Yoo failed to capitalise on the stronger position she gained as a result of her first major victory.
The South Korean star kicked off the first round with confidence, as she recorded a 2-under 70. She posted 2 birdies and one bogey on the front nine.
Analysts said that if the major winner had displayed a steady form in the second round as well, she would have consolidated her position on the leaderboard.
Yoo faltered in the second round, as she registered a 1-under 73. She parred the first hole and scored a bogey on the par-4 2nd. Despite plenty of good chances that she received on the course, Yoo was able to record only one birdie on the 15th
hole.
Analysts said that Yoo looked in a good from before the match, but posting such low scores has put a dent in her overall position on the leaderboard.
She stunned her fans at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, as the field at the first major event was far more competent than that of Lotte Championship.
Although happy to become the major champion, Yoo modestly said that she still saw herself as a normal player. She said that she would gain much-needed confidence due to this triumph.
"It was my dream winning a major and I couldn't believe I won," Yoo said. "Everybody is calling me as a major champion now but I'm the still same person".
"I've been working so hard on my game and I just want to believe that hard work pays off. My goal for the rest of season is two wins and to finish in the top 10 on the money list. I want to be a very consistent player for my career," the South Korean star
said.
