LPGA Xavier International, Daytona State team on top, Mitsuki Katahira leads

The LPGA Xavier International ended on the 10th of October, Sunday. The tournament was a three day event held at the International Legends course with the yardage of 6084. The game at Daytona Beach, Florida ended with Daytona State women’s golf
team standing victorious. A total of 14 teams participated in the event with the host team achieving the third place.
This is the second time Daytona State team has charged into the winning race from behind at the 72 par golf course. The team achieved the win with a total of 13 strokes lead over the runner up team. As for the leader board statistics, Daytona State collected
a total of 894 points with scoring the highest in its first rounds. The team carded a 305 in its first round with a 290 in R2 and then a 299 in its last round.
The runner up position stood with a 13 shot deficit from the leader after collecting a 907. University of Montana carded scores of 299, 310 and then a 298 to achieve the second place. The third place was held by the host of the tournament, Xavier University
with a 915. The third place holders managed to card fairly high scores as compared to the top scoring universities. The team carded a 310, 304 and then its lowest 301.
To round up the top five universities of the event, Campbell University and Stetson University stood at the fourth and fifth position on the Xavier International leader board. The teams collected the total scores of 920 and 925. Campbell University carded
total scores of 305, 313 and a 302 while the Stetson University carded decreasing scores starting 314 and then a 306 and 305 in the last two rounds.    
The winning team, also known as the Falcons, was led by Mitsuki Katahira. Katahira scored a total of 210 after her game and carded two successive 69s with a 72 in the last round. Katahira led the team and the runner up with an 8 stroke front. Her 6 under
par play placed her ahead of Alex Buelow from the Stetson University as she was the only female golfer to have scored a below par score.   
According to the head coach Laura Brown, she had full confidence in Katahira. She compared Katahira with a machine’s ability to work constantly. She said that Katahira can work harder than the rest which makes her one of the best players she has known.
On her goal list, Katahira has plans on winning every tournament she plays as an individual. Head Coach believes that Katahira is well under way in achieving her goals and is highly impressed with her sense of professionalism and love for golf.   
Other than the star performer Katahira, Ericka Schneider ended her game with a plus 5 while Kelly Miller finished with a plus 15. Schneider carded her lowest score in the second round with a 67 while carded two 77s in the first and third round. The freshman,
Miller finished her game after tying on the 15th place, the female golfer carded scores of 79, 78 and a 74 in the three rounds of the Xavier International.
With a one stroke deficit Amy West stood behind Miller after scoring a 232 with a plus 16. West carded an 80 in the first rounds and two successive 76s in the last rounds. West was tied for the 22nd place, while Classie Cleary ended on the 65th
place. Cleary scored a total of 247 with a plus 31 and carded 80, 85 and an 82 as her scores.
Team Falcon will be appearing next for the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational due to be held at the Pelican Preserve Golf Club. The event is 32nd in its occurrence and will be held on the 31st of November.
