LPGA and the Golf channel announce broadcast schedule for 2011 - Golf update
Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) has announced its TV schedule for 2011 with the Golf Channel. The new schedule contains extensive coverage of the LPGA with at least 45 telecasts of United States tournaments per day, which were 34 for the same
number of events the last year. The Golf Channel, the official broadcaster of LPGA events, will telecast 22 LPGA events including the most prestigious ladies team event, the Solheim Cup. The schedule starts with this week’s inaugural RR Donnelley LPGA Founders
Cup at the Wild fire Golf Club to be held in Phoenix.
The first major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco championship will be on-air live for 20 hours with back-up coverage of six hours on the first two days of the event. Moreover, the central pre-game shows including the reviews and analysis is poised to go on-air
on the final two days of the event prior to play. However, CBS will not be airing the final nine holes of the Kraft Nabisco championship.
LPGA in trying to enhance its relationship with the Golf Channel after the ten-year agreement that was signed in 2010 is over. “As our relationship with Golf Channel continues to grow, we are pleased to increase our tournament coverage and showcase the talent
and personalities of the LPGA’s global stars,” said Jon Podany, LPGA Chief Marketing Officer. “Our telecasts will continue to feature unique elements and news coverage will emphasize our players outside the ropes.”
13 LPGA events out of the total 14 taking place in the United States will be aired live. On the other hand, seven LPGA events are set to be telecast tape-delayed, including all the events taking place in October. The only LPGA event not to get any television
coverage is the Mizuno Classic to be held in November later this year. The time slots on TV for the events are not allocated as of yet.
According to supporters, the growing air-time of many LPGA events signifies the growing popularity of golf not only among women but all the Golf fans.
