LPGA officials say community assistance behind RR Donnelley Founders Cup
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) has said that the schedule of the RR Donnelley Founders Cup was made possible due to community support.
The event is going to be played from March 14-18, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge’s Wildfire Golf Club.
Speaking to the media about the upcoming event, LPGA officials said that the event is going to be conducted with full backing of the community that assisted them on every step of the way.
The event will feature a number of prominent players on the LPGA and it is expected that there is going to be a tough battle among rivals.
LPGA's Chief Communications Officer, Kraig Kann said that they knew that the second staging of the event at the famous golf course of Phoenix this year would be tougher.
However, thanks to the efforts of concerned officials, everything happened easily.
He said there were certain risks involved in conducting the event at Phoenix, which he said were not that serious, but could have undermined LPGA efforts to head to Phoenix once again.
He said that the officials have heaped praise on the communication department of the LPGA.
“What started out as a risk has turned very, very quickly into something with great reward," said Kraig Kann.
The Founders Cup is a 72-hole tournament. This year, big names are expected to overshadow everything.
For instance, Karrie Webb, who grabbed the title in the 2011 event, will show up at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge.
Analysts have said that Webb’s participation will spice up the event, as it will ensure a tough competition among players.
The 4-day tournament is being followed not only because of big names, but also because of a hefty purse.
The officials plan to offer a whopping $1.5 purse this year. Observers said that the money will lure players.
The Founders Cup was introduced in order to pay tribute to the LPGA founding fathers, as they served for golf, especially LPGA.
LPGA Hall of Famer, Betsy King said that she is pretty happy about the Cup being played at Phoenix once again.
"I am very impressed by the field of the players today. It is time that if you want to prove that you're the best in the world, you have to come play on the LPGA tour," she said.
