LPGA phenom Angela Stanford making headway
American Angela Stanford appears to have the tools for making headway on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) as her solid performance in recent tournaments also speaks for itself.
Stanford participated in the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 where she performed well as she fired an overall 298 to finish tied for the 23rd position on the leaderboard.
When the American star set foot on course of Royal Liverpool Golf Club on last Thursday, she was aware of the threat of bad weather, which she also mentioned during her interview at the end of the second round.
Speaking to the LPGA Tour, Stanford said her father, who is like a mental coach to her, has always told her to be prepared for the weather as the forecast at Royal Liverpool Golf Club was also telling something unusual was going to happen.
“My dad told me a long time ago, you never know what the weather is going to do when you start a tournament, so you'd better be close to the top. You never know what's going to happen over here and I knew it being even yesterday, that that was a good spot,” Stanford shared.
She said that when they completed their first round, none of the contenders knew what was going to happen on the second day, but she said that she was happy after making a decent start that saw her shoot a 72.
“And when I heard that it went to 50, I could hear my dad in the back of my mind saying, that's why you have to play good starting from day one because you don't know what's going to happen,” the American golfer said.
The LPGA titan certainly has game and determination, but she has to hone her putting skills even more if she wants to bag successes at the next level. Much improvement is needed before Stanford can even think of cutting rivals, especially South Korean, down to size.
In the current season, Stanford’s vast experience has exploded into reality. She added yet another huge success to her profile after she won the HSBC Women’s Champions, beating South Korean Na Yeon Choi, Shanshan Feng and Jenny Shin in playoff.
