LPGA players to play a charity match in April
Players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) are planning to play for a good cause this year, with the Randalls for Kids Charity Golf Tournament slated to be played on April 23, at Canongate, The Woodlands.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston conducts the event match every year.
The Club has been working for the betterment of children and the main objective for its activities is to raise money for the children who do not have any supervision.
The reason behind inviting professional LPGA players is to lure money, which will then be used on various developmental programmes designed for kids.
According to the details, the Boys & Girls Club caters to the needs of around 10,000 children in different locations.
Angela Atkins Hodson, who is a staff member of the Boys & Girls Club, said that the participation of professional female golfers will help the organisation raise massive funds.
She said that the yearly collection of funds amounts to over $300,000. The formation of the field that plays the event is generally set by sponsors and players.
Since the event is purely intended for charity, both current and former LPGA players appear on the course, chipping in for the good cause.
Hodson said that she believes that programmes like this are the need of the hour and will definitely set a precedent.
She added that she was an avid golfer for some time and this is what has kept her associated with the cause.
Speaking of her experience with the organisation, Hodson expressed that she is very happy about being associated with the Boys & Girls Club. This way, she said she can do her desired work: charity and golf.
"I've always loved the organization and mission, and so this was a great fit. What I love is helping kids that are more at risk and (showing them) that they can do anything they want with their lives, that they're not limited," she said.
Key players who have committed to play the tournament include Michelle McGann.
"It's a great day," said McGann. "I've had an opportunity to meet a lot of good people in the Houston area".
McGann said that she likes what the organisation is doing and the event is a good opportunity for everyone to play their role in making the lives of children better.
