LPGA star I.K. Kim desperate to end victory drought
South Korean I.K. Kim, who has won three LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournaments so far in her professional career, is eyeing another professional title at the coming CN Canadian Women’s Open
2012, scheduled to be played from August 20-26, at The Vancouver Golf Club, Canada.
Kim has been winless since her last triumph at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November 2010, however, she now looks all set to battle some of the key LPGA stars such as American Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer,
current world number one Yani Tseng, Lexi Thompson, Suzann Pettersen, Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr, Na Yeon Choi, Natalie Gulbis and Katherine Hull.
The roster for the Canadian Women’s Open is not just limited to the aforementioned names, as more players will be confirming their commitment to participate in the prestigious LPGA tournament.
According to the officials, this year’s field will be featuring not only top-ranked stars, but also a number of contenders from Canada and rookies.
Kim, who is desperately seeking to win an event in the current season, can capitalise on this opportunity and end her victory drought at Vancouver. Up till now, the LPGA titan has done well, recording good
finishes in some of the recent tournaments. For instance, she came close to grabbing a title at the Kraft Nabisco Championship 2012, as she lost to Sun Young Yoo in playoff.
Analysts said that the South Korean star is keen to prove her worth once again, but she will have to go a long way before she can think of outrivaling players like Tseng or Choi, who is too fired up these days.
Analysts also pointed out that Kim showed her real skills at the Kraft Nabisco 2012, as she did not let her nerve overcome her. Most important of all, the ambitious golfer did not lose hope and decided to move
on in order to atone for her lapses.
“I feel comfortable. I think I was just trying too hard. I hit lots of good shots. Just didn't go where I want it, but I made lots of good putts and didn't drop this in,” Kim had said at the end of the major
event.
